Galatians 2:11-14 Leaders Can Be Wrong

Paul was not slow in opposing the Judaizers (vs 5) or Peter (vs 11), who was a “pillar” of the church. Peter’s status with people meant nothing because he was wrong. Whenever a leader tries to impose the Law on believers it is always wrong. Whenever believers attempt to keep the Law it is always a mistake. Peter received a special revelation from God that Gentiles were included in the New Covenant when they believed in Jesus and confessed Him as Lord. Yet because he feared the Judaizers he compromised the gospel and withdrew fellowship with the believing Gentiles in Antioch. Peter wanted them to enter bondage and try to keep the Law which neither he nor anyone else could keep. The Law had no power to help Peter overcome sin. And it has no power to help anyone overcome sin. All it can do is point out sin. However, the Holy Spirit, who has given us a new heart, a new spirit, and indwells us, can enable us to overcome any temptation.
